phea jean is a clothing and accessories line based in South Philadelphia. Amber Zaraza designs and meticulously sews each item which is made from primarily vintage and upcycled materials. Amber began sewing at the age of 12 and quickly fell in love with the craft. She obtained her degree in Fashion Design in 2005 and started phea jean.
Amber mixes bold patterns and prints to create unique, one of a kind pieces. She goes “treasure hunting” in attics, basements, flea markets, and thrift stores to find the vintage materials used in her creations.
Originally a custom handbag company, phea jean (named for her grandmother) has grown to include other accessories such as hats, scarves, and hair accessories. phea jean customers can also expand their funky wardrobe with clothing such as dresses, capes, and ponchos.
Amber often creates patterns using friends with various body types as her dress forms. All phea jean clothing was designed to accommodate a variety of sizes, something that Amber noticed was lacking in the handmade world.
